Japanese Comfort Food | Have You Heard of BAKUDAN? It's Delicious.

BAKUDAN means bomb in Japanese. Yup. When you eat that thing, all kinds of umami will explode in your mouth!

This seafood 'donburi' became my favorite lunch spot when I was working for a company in Daikanyama. In this blog, I will introduce you THE best seafood donburi offered at Aburiyaki and Sushi An.

TASTE

The main is an assorted seafood bowl with egg yolk, natto and pickled raddish that goes on the top of rice. Seafood variation changes by seasons. Today it came with maguro, squid, white fish, flying fish roe, and whelk. If you don't like natto or raw egg you can tell them, but I'd say at least to try it.

Besides that, you get a giant bowl of soup with lots and lots of veggies, 2 side dishes (usually some sort of pickles, salad or stewed dish), and a dessert. That hot and flavourful soup always reminds me of my mom's homemade food.

So let's me lecture you how to eat. The first thing you do is to pour the soy sauce into fish bowl and mix it with a small spoon until its equally blended together. This step makes a big difference in its silkiness and the final taste, so pleeeease promise me not to skip! Then you pour fish mixture on the top of rice and dig in!

Crunch from whelk, crispiness from fish roe, and silkiness from maguro and fresh egg yolk... So many different texture will dance on your tongue and BAM! Explodes like BAKUDAN! You just love it.

LOCATION

It's located on the top floor of La Fuente which is just 3 minutes away from Daikanyama Station. I usually walk from Shibuya which takes about 20 minutes, or you can take Hachiko bus (100yen flat rate) if you're coming from Shibuya.

NOTE

Aburiyaki and Sushi An is operated by XEX and known for a spot to take your date or nice business dinner. Its bar area is quite nice and moody, especially the terrace area. If you're looking for a cool bar to go in Spring or Fall, this is definitely a good place.

I do dinner there only occasionally since the price is quite high if you're a drinker. (I think it was about 160USD per a person with a bottle of wine and some appetizers.)
