Universal Studios Japan | Tips and Hacks you must know before going to Usj

Planning

The busiest time of the year to in Japan is:

Spring Break (End of February to Early April)
Halloween
Summer Break (August)
Christmas and New Years

Make sure to go other than the times listed above to get the full experience at Universal Studios Japan! (USJ)

Tickets

TIP: You can get discounts on your birthday month!

The cost varies depending on when you go during the week. Weekdays are cheaper than weekends. One day passes (mid tier) is 8400 yen.

On your birthday month, one day pass is 7900yen! (you can save 500 yen) This not only applies to that person but also up to 5 people they invite. In addition, if you were not able to go on your birthday month, you can go a month after as this applies also to anyone on their birthday or a month after.

4 year old Birthday Ticket

If you know someone turning 4 years old, this is a great deal because you can get the ticket for half of the price for the person turning for and other person. In addition, 5 other people can get discount as well. Discount is applied up to even 2 months after turning 4.

Tickets can be bought online from the Universal Studios website or going to your nearest convenience store. * on the Universal Studios website, there is more information in Japanese than in other languages, so it is recommended to use either Google Translate or have someone help you purchase it.

Entrance

You can get your tickets at the booth but one way to cut time is to get QR code, where you can scan your code at the entrance.

Going to the park 30-45mins before the park opens

The park opening time is quite flexible, meaning during the busiest times (usually the holidays), they may even open the park 30-45 mins before the actual opening hours.

Express Pass

Buying the express pass is the most effective way

This works quite similar to Disneyland’s fast pass, where if you get the fast pass, you are prioritized to go on the ride than the normal lane. However, in comparison to Disneyland’s fast pass, the more money you pay, the more rides you can go on. At Disneyland, you can only have one fast pass at a time, but at USJ, you can buy up to 7 fast passes and save your time! Again, you can purchase them online on their website, but do make sure to buy them beforehand, as they sell out quite quickly.

Royal Studio Pass

High-end but give amazing experience at USJ

The Royal Studio pass is unique as you can get express access for more than 13 rides and even shows! The best part is that there is unlimited use all day long. This pass does not end here, where you are assured to go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at a certain time and also free parking if you are going there by car. But the quality comes with a price tag, and the price comes sometimes up to 40,000 yen and is has limited number of passes.

Yoyaku Nori

No waiting in the Wonderland

The Wonderland is like the “kids area”, where most of the rides are for young children. “Yoyaku”, means reservation in Japanese and you can reserve 5 rides: Flying Snoopy, Snoopy’s Great Race, Elmo’s Go-go Skateboard, Moppy’s Balloon Trip, and Elmo’s bubble bubble. Families who have young children and have trouble waiting in line would be perfect to get Yoyakunori. But do keep in mind that you can get only one at a time.

Restaurants

There are four restaurants at USJ that you can reserve: Parkside Grill Finnegan's Bar and Grill Saito and izuta, and Di Capri. Of course, you can book in advance online or go directly to the restaurant that day.

Side note: At all of the four restaurants, you can reserve for a celebration, you can request for a cake and request for a table as well!

Three Broom Sticks

The pork on ribs is 2000 yen and has also corn on the cob as well as roasted potatoes. The pork is really tender and is quite delicious.

Other information

You are able to leave the park and get back in (with exception)

If you do not feel well, they will take you to their official hotel
If you need to go to the Drug store
If you need to go to the kennel for pet service
If you want to go to the picnic area

Special Stickers

At USJ, you can get special stickers from the staff, which are not sold anywhere. There are different stickers, so you can ask the staff if they have one. In addition, there are also birthday, special character anniversary, and other limited edition stickers as well. So, you can enjoy USJ in a different way and collect variety of stickers!
