World's Largest Gundam Factory in Yokohama
The Gundam Factory in Yokohama opened on December 19 2020 and is a limited event and is expected to close on March 31st 2022. The life-size Gundam is 18m tall and was built celebrating the commemoration of 40th Anniversary of airing “Mobile Suit Gundam” series. What differentiates from the previous Gundam Factory such as the Unicorn Gundam in Odaiba is that it has more than 20 moving parts which can be seen up close.
If purchasing an additional ticket, you are able to see the Gundam up close at the Gundam- Dock Tower at different levels on the 5th and 6th floors and also take photos. You are able to see the movements and different angles of the Gundam even till the tips of the fingers.
The Gundam Academy on the first floor of Gundam Lab allows visitors to see how the Gundam was built and the experiencing AR enjoying different techniques. In- depth information about the construction and design of the large Gundam can also be found.
The Gundam Base, they sell different Gundam Models, including exclusive models sold only at the Yokohama Shop. Some of the many exclusive models are “luminous crystal gundam”, “clear gundam”, and also “ekopura”. Other products sold at store are stationeries, clothes, souvenirs, and snacks.
They also have a “Gundam Cafe”, which has Gundam themed food. The steamed bun filling, which is red bean paste, is thick and sweet and it is great to pair with the Gundam Cafe Latte Art. The Cheese Hamburger also looks appetizing with Gundam wrappers.
